A US judge has given short shrift to Facebook's delay tactics in its long-running class-action court case over its use of facial recognition technology, saying the firm's concerns about financial and reputational costs were thin and unconvincing.

The data-hungry social media biz had asked for a stay in the case, which was filed back in May 2015, but in a scathing order handed down yesterday, district judge James Donato denied the request, saying the case was "ripe for trial".
