The GDPR mandate took effect on 25 May 2018, replacing the previous European privacy laws. It will impact the processing of all personal data on EU data subjects for any organization worldwide. Under Article 3, GDPR has implications for every organization — based in the EU or not — that deals with European residents, specifically with respect to how and why they collect, store or manipulate personal data in electronic formats. The new law authorizes fines of up to 4% of a violator’s global annual revenue, or €20 million, whichever is larger.
