After a period of uncertainty and an accidental sneak peek at the update, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge finally began receiving their Oreo update a few weeks ago. The update was first rolled out in the UK, and a global release was to follow. However, the rollout was halted temporarily, owing to several users reporting random restarts on their devices. We’ve seen the exact set of events unfurl earlier this year with the Galaxy S8 and the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 8 Oreo update.

News of the rollout being put on hold came from a moderator on Samsung’s official help forum for Europe, who posted that following a small number of cases where Galaxy S7 units rebooted unexpectedly post Oreo. A similar notice was also posted on Samsung’s official help forum for Canada where another moderator stated that the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge is pending in need of a fix for a technical issue that was discovered after the update was released. Obviously, random reboots are a critical issue and need to be addressed on a priority basis.
