A federal jury in Texas has ordered Apple to pay out $502.6 million to VirtnetX Holding Corp., the kind of company often referred to as a patent troll, in the eighth year of contentious legal battles between the two companies, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

According to Bloomberg, VirnetX’s stock skyrocketed by 44 percent on Tuesday after the jury concluded Apple was violating its patents on secure communications technology. Apple stock was barely affected, if at was all, given the tech giant rolls in hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue a year.
