The US Department of Justice has said the arrest of Marcus Hutchins, the British researcher who killed off the WannaCry ransomware outbreak, is down to the suspicion that he's a malware writer himself.

Hutchins was arrested after a holiday in the US, where he was a guest at the DEF CON hacking conference. The FBI seems to have cuffed him at the airport as he was preparing to fly back to Blighty after a holiday of fast cars, gun ranges, and hacker parties.
