After Samsung released Oreo beta for its select smartphones, it is now Essential Phone’s turn to get the taste of Oreo. During an AMA session on Reddit last month, the company revealed that it has started the internal testing for Oreo public beta and will make it available “within next several weeks”. The time has come for the public to be accessible to the Essential Phone users. Today, the company released the first public beta of Android 8.0 Oreo.
As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, Essential is not the first manufacturer to launch the beta program. OEMs like Samsung, Huawei, Nokia, and OnePlus have also opened public beta programs for their users. With beta programs, a limited number of users get the chance to try the new software update before it is rolled out to all the users. Essential Phone users can now try out the latest Android OS version without the need to wipe existing data or doing a factory reset. It will be manually sideloaded on the device with the help Android Debug Bridge, keep in mind that it is not available as OTA.
