The fate of CNN in AT&T's mega-deal for entertainment company Time Warner became a flashpoint Wednesday as the telecom company's chief executive said he has no intention of selling off the news network in order to get the deal approved by the Trump administration.

Several people familiar with the deal provided contradictory accounts over whether AT&T was being asked to sell off CNN's parent company, Turner Broadcasting, as a condition of getting government approval. One person familiar with the negotiations with the federal government said the Department of Justice wanted AT&T to sell off the news network and its parent company.
