Western Digital has announced its collaboration with Kioxia to manufacture a 162 Layer NAND using a process technology called bit column stacked or BiCS NAND. This process allows for the drive to allow for 162 layers placed on a single NAND flash.
Over the last week, Micron also revealed the company's plans for a 232-layer NAND flash drive at their press conference. The sixth-generation BiCS NAND flash from Western Digital and Kioxia will offer 162-layer BiCS NAND flash technology, which is lower than most competitors who offer 176-layer stacks on their NAND flash drives.
