Last week, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ordered Epic Games to pay Apple $6 million in royalty payments as the game developer violated the App Store’s guidelines. Sure enough, the court order has been followed, but it is likely that this saga is far from over.
To bring you up to speed, Epic Games was ordered to pay 30 percent of the revenue that is collected from the Fortnite app using its direct payment option, which went against Apple’s App Store guidelines and was also the reason the game was pulled from the platform. Epic Games was forced to pay 30 percent of the $12 million total that was collected between August 2020 and October 2020, along with 30 percent of revenue collected from November 1, 2020, through the date of the judgment.
