The low-light performance of the last few Samsung flagships is sub-par compared to the likes of Huawei and Google. Samsung decided to do something about it by baking a Night Mode into the Galaxy S10 series. Last month, Samsung rolled out an important update for the Galaxy S10 which allowed users to use the devices’ in-built Night Mode whenever they wanted to. The mode would kick in automatically whenever the camera detected poor lighting conditions. That may be helpful under pitch black conditions but the problem arises when the ambient light is just above the threshold of what the camera considers ‘dark’, resulting in noticeably poor camera performance.

There are no improvements to the actual Night Mode itself. The quality of images will remain more or less the same, but the option to switch it on manually is nice. The feature then made its way to older devices such as the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ via the June security patch. Most international variants of the device have received it via the update, with the notable exception of the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S10s in the US.
