Huawei and 70 of its affiliates will not be allowed to buy components from American firms without the permission of the US government, under new rules announced on Wednesday (16 May).

The intervention forms part of a fresh crackdown against the Chinese tech giant, which has been accused by Washington of operating at Beijing’s behest (an allegation which Huawei denies).
