On March 23, 2018, Huang's Model X was operating under Autopilot when the vehicle veered left, taking the vehicle out of its lane and colliding with a concrete barrier on US Highway 101 in Mountain View, California. The State of California's Department of Transportation is also listed as a defendant in the complaint, which alleges the department failed to repair a crash attenuator that was damaged in a previous collision in the same area.
