Scientists have unveiled the first ever image of a black hole, showing a ring of light around the object’s event horizon. The announcement was made at press conferences taking place across the globe.

In Washington, D.C., France Córdova, director of the National Science Foundation, introduced a panel of scientists working on the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project. She said that today, the team behind the project have informed and enhanced our understanding of black holes.
