FuelCell Energy announced the commissioning of a power plant in Pittsburgh using solid oxide technology FuelCell has developed with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, representing a new direction from its historic carbonate fuel cell technology to generate electricity.

Danbury-based FuelCell designs its carbonate-technology plants to produce power at megawatt scale for the needs of thousands of homes or industrial equivalents, with the plants operating at high heat to generate electricity through a chemical process.
