The state health department distributed iPads to Connecticut nursing homes Saturday with an order to help residents who have been unable to have visitors since March stay in touch with friends and relatives.

The iPads, paid for with civil fines, were being delivered in time for Mother’s Day Sunday. Each of the state’s 215 nursing homes was to receive a number of the devices based on the facility’s size.
