Clearview AI, the controversial facial recognition company, announced that someone with “unauthorized access” hacked sensitive information, including its entire client list. The organisation has scraped billions of ‘open source’ images from social media and the internet and partnered with more than 600 law enforcement agencies including the FBI. Privacy campaigners are, likely, experiencing some schadenfreude.

Tor Ekeland, attorney for Clearview, said in a statement: “Security is Clearview’s top priority. Unfortunately, data breaches are part of life in the 21st century.  Our servers were never accessed. We patched the flaw, and continue to work to strengthen our security.”
