With the Snapdragon 855 announcement official, the chipset manufacturer’s partners will be progressing to make the 5G standard a global phenomenon with the launch of 5G-ready flagships next year. OnePlus is going to be one of those partners, but you should expect to pay a hefty sum for that ‘5G-ready’ label. According to the company’s CEO, a separate 5G-capable flagship will launch in 2019, but you could be paying at least $200 more than the OnePlus 6T’s base price to get one.
In an interview with The Verge, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said that his company is working on both a new 5G flagship and an existing device that will be compatible with today’s networks. However, customers who want to future-proof themselves when 5G networks and its related equipment are rolled out in droves, they should expect to pay between $200-$300 more for it.
