Scenario: You recently have been diagnosed with a health condition which requires close and ongoing monitoring to establish which medication is best for you and what dose is optimal to help keep your condition under control- the condition could be blood pressure, diabetes, depression, dementia, the list goes on. How should/could we manage the condition?
In most instances, this type of scenario is still managed by numerous trips to the doctors or hospital, being subjected to a battery of tests, and going back and forth until the best treatment plan has been established. More recently however, the digital platform is enabling increasing access to a plethora of health apps and technologies, to monitor various aspects of our behaviours and to positively influence behaviour patterns with the ultimate goal of positively impacting our overall health. Wearables is one type of technology which is facilitating a greater focus on healthy practices, particularly in the fitness and wellness scene, by empowering individuals to take some control over improving their health. One of the advantages of wearables is that it puts the monitoring of manageable aspects of health in the hands of the wearer, who can then access their personal data and review trends about their sleep patterns, activity levels, heart rate etc., and hopefully be motivated to make positive changes in order to improve their health.
