Microsoft started rolling out Windows 10 October 2018 Update last month – in October. The company had to then pull the update back because it turned out there were some serious bugs affecting some of the users who were first to install the update. While the release process was put to a pause just a few days after it initially began, it appears that millions of users still managed to install the update on their machines.

For the past three years, Microsoft has been working on building an update system that smoothly sends out all its feature and quality updates to hundreds of millions of machines without any hiccups. When the company decided to bypass the Release Preview ring and opened the floodgates to everyone (adopting a “seeker” strategy), it enabled everyone interested in getting the new update or anyone who fell for the benign-looking “check for updates” button to install the update.
