Samsung hinted that the official release of Android Pie wouldn’t start before early 2019 yesterday. We already know how Android Pie w/ Samsung Experience 10 looks like on the Galaxy S9+ courtesy a leaked build posted online. Today, XDA Developers managed to get their hands on a build that will reportedly be a part of the Pie open beta. Google isn’t doing it anytime soon so Samsung will be introducing a system-wide night theme with the Android Pie update.
Some of the changes introduced in the build address existing issues from the earlier version. Swiping up in the position of a button on the nav bar works now. When this is enabled, the nav bar will be hidden completely, and apps will stretch all the way to the bottom of the display. It’s also mentioned that the Galaxy S9 will receive some software features from the Galaxy Note 9 such as Scene Optimizer and Flaw Detection. These are camera features that use AI to improve the imaging experience on the device and were exclusive to Note 9. The app icons have received a fresh coat of paint as well. The overall UI changes are significant, and from the looks of it, they’re likely to cause a rift among hardcore fans.
