While the next iPhone announcement is expected to be in a matter of weeks, the latest news from Apple is actually about a patent the company filed for self-driving cars back in September 2015. Of particular note is a GPS countdown indicator, which is illustrative of Apple's approach not only to car navigation but also Maps.

When Apple Maps originally launched on the iPhone 5 with iOS 6 it was less than stellar. Six years and several revisions later, Apple announced plans to do a major overhaul on Maps for iOS 12. But this patent discovery does little to confirm the rumors that there will be not one or two, but three new iPhones in 2018: A big one, a cheap one and one with three rear cameras like the Huawei P20 Pro.
