Nvidia is planning to hold a GeForce event at Gamescom next month. The event will be held on August 20th and include new games, hands-on demos, and “some spectacular surprises.” Nvidia’s surprises will almost certainly involve a new GPU. Nvidia originally scheduled a talk entitled “NVIDIA’s Next Generation Mainstream GPU” at Hot Chips on August 20th, the same day as its newly announced GeForce event.
Nvidia is expected to announce its new GeForce GTX 1180 GPU, based on the Turing architecture, at this Gamescom event. While Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently said the next GeForce GPUs would be “a long time from now,” a Lenovo product manager mention the GTX 11 series naming and Nvidia teased its Turing architecture by commemorated Alan Turing’s birthday on Twitter last month. Images of an alleged Nvidia engineering sample for the GeForce GTX 1180 leaked last month complete with the new GDDR6 memory that Micron just started mass producing.
