AMD is getting ready to launch their next-gen Ryzen Threadripper 2000 series processors and so are their board partners. Almost all AMD board partners are gearing up to launch new AMD X399 refresh motherboards and also retaining support for the new processors on their current board lineups, for this reason, the partners are releasing new BIOS for users who will be upgrading to the new HEDT CPUs.

The AMD 2nd Generation Ryzen Threadripper processors launch next month. They will be featuring the highest core count model for the HEDT market, the 32 core, 64 thread, the Threadripper 2990X, a beast of a chip. There will be a couple of other models that would make their way to the market like the 2950X (16 core) and 2970X (24 core). While current motherboards are technically ready to support the new processors, you’d still need a BIOS update to ensure full compatibility with these motherboards otherwise, using a 2nd Gen Threadripper on a current X399 motherboard will lead to no boot at all.
