From fine-dining restaurants to fast-food drive-thrus, everyone’s joining the crispy chicken sandwich craze. The culinary trend that started in the summer of 2019 when Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen put a chicken sandwich on its menu for the first time shows no sign of cooling down, especially with “Nashville Hot” flavors still a fiery seller nationwide.

Popeyes may have fired the latest salvo in this crunchy competition, but Chick-fil-A gets credit for creating the national chicken sandwich classic in the first place (note the number of restaurants going with that successful pickles-and-mayo formula).
