Famed ice cream maker Ben & Jerry’s on Tuesday followed REI, Patagonia and The North Face in saying it was pulling advertising from Facebook over claims the Menlo Park company profits from promotion of hate, racism and violence on its platform.
Ben & Jerry’s, headquartered in Vermont and owned by European conglomerate Unilever, said in a statement that starting July 1, it would “pause” all paid U.S. advertising on Facebook, and on Facebook-owned Instagram, to push the social media company to “stop its platform from being used to spread and amplify racism and hate.”
