SAN JOSE — A huge residential development that would bring several hundred homes to the downtown San Jose area has pushed ahead with a deal to buy a real estate site needed for the proposed apartment project.

The developers of the project, located near the corner of Park Avenue and McEvoy Street next to the official western boundary of downtown San Jose, have bought one of the estimated seven parcels where the two-building project would sprout.
