After months of wrangling, state leaders have settled on a deal to provide relief from soaring gasoline prices and inflation to millions of Californians who have watched their hard-earned money disappear into their gas tanks and grocery bills.

Hailed as the “centerpiece” of the new $300 billion state budget, the proposed deal, expected to be approved by Thursday, is a $9.5 billion plan that would send rebates ranging from $200 up to $1,050 to 17.4 million California tax filers.
