As news spread of the U.S. Supreme Court’s reversal of historic abortion rights case Roe v. Wade on Friday, Bay Area residents, politicians and community leaders expressed shock, anger, grief — and a drive to fight back.
Though abortion remains legal in California, the decision is expected to lead to full or partial abortion bans in more than half of the states in the county. In the Bay Area and throughout the Golden State, many viewed Friday’s decision as a major setback for women’s rights, and protests were expected to take place throughout the day. But in light of the news, California abortion providers, politicians and activists vowed to double-down on efforts to ensure locals and people from out of state continue to have access to the procedure.
