Gas prices in California on Wednesday hit an average of $5.57 a gallon, according to AAA, a new record that is the highest in the nation and nearly a dollar more than a month ago.
Now Gov. Gavin Newsom is proposing providing financial relief to help drivers cope with skyrocketing prices fueled by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On Wednesday the governor’s office declined to offer details on how or when state money could flow to motorists, however, they expect the figure to be in the billions, which could range from as little as $80 per driver or into the hundreds of dollars, depending on exactly who is eligible and how much money is disbursed.
