The future of shopping arrived at San Jose State University this week with the Ginger Market, where shoppers can pick out their items and walk out without waiting in line for a cashier. It’s the first autonomous store of its kind in the South Bay, and if it catches on, you can bet it won’t be the last.

“We say it’s ‘frictionless,’ ” Raymond Luu, San Jose State’s associate director of commercial services said. “We understand a university student has places to go and classes to get to.”
