To play Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s upcoming limited series “The Dropout,” Amanda Seyfried easily donned a Steve Jobs-inspired black turtleneck and pulled her blonde hair back into a messy bun, but she had to work “really hard” to develop the “signature deep voice” that the Theranos founder allegedly affected to convince investors and the public that she had the gravitas to be the next Silicon Valley visionary.

During a panel discussion at the Television Critics Association’s press tour Tuesday, Seyfried said she practiced “different breathing and tricks” to sound like Holmes, the Stanford drop-out who was convicted last month of defrauding investors out of more than $100 million. Seyfried said she had to overcome the fact that “the shape of my mouth isn’t the same as hers,” according to Variety.
