SAN JOSE — A San Jose site where a housing development of more than 100 apartments might sprout has tumbled into a default on its real estate loan, raising questions about the project’s future.

The property has lurched in and out of foreclosure proceedings and now has landed back in a process whereby the site could be seized by a lender seeking repayment of one of the parcel’s loans.
