SAN JOSE — A big residential development that could bring hundreds of units to downtown San Jose — including a few affordable apartments — is headed for a crucial city decision.

The project would be built near the southeast corner of West San Carlos Street and Josefa Street in San Jose, a short distance from the footprint of Google’s transit-oriented proposed neighborhood, which is known as Downtown West.
