FREMONT — Job cuts well in excess of 100 positions hammered Bay Area tech and biotech workers in a fresh round of staffing reductions that extend a widening barrage of layoffs, new official state notices show.

Seagate Technology, a long-time disk-drive manufacturer with a huge Fremont operation; and Natera, a San Carlos-based biotech company, are among the latest companies to disclose plans for staffing cutbacks in the Bay Area, according to filings with the state Employment Development Department.
