The husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was released from a hospital Thursday, nearly a week after being attacked by a hammer-wielding intruder at the couple’s San Francisco house, his family confirmed in a statement.

Paul Pelosi, 82, had been hospitalized at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital since Oct. 28 due to the middle-of-the-night attack, which left him unconscious and lying in a pool of blood in the foyer of their Pacific Heights home. In a statement Thursday afternoon, Nancy Pelosi voiced her appreciation for the first responders and doctors who came to her husband’s aid over the past week.
