Despite opposition from residents who want to push the plan forward, the Santa Clara City Council has delayed a decision on the construction of a contentious affordable housing project near City Hall in order to weigh a proposal to build a park at the site instead.
The Civic Center Drive 106-unit project would serve as permanent housing for residents who make 30 to 50% of Santa Clara’s average median income, or families who make $34,800 to $96,150 each year, according to Charities Housing, the San Jose-based nonprofit overseeing the project.
