The super-heated pace of inflation in the Bay Area eased slightly in August compared with June of this year — but the region’s brutal inflation rate nevertheless jumped by 5.7% on a yearly basis, the government reported Tuesday.
Nationwide, the consumer price index skyrocketed by 8.3% on a yearly basis in August, up 0.1% compared to the month before, and stymied Wall Street forecasters who had expected that the inflation rate would dip to an annual pace of 8.1%.
