Consumer prices in the Bay Area eased slightly during August compared to the super-heated pace of earlier in 2022 — but the region’s brutal inflation rate nevertheless jumped by 5.7% on a yearly basis, the government reported Tuesday.

One small bright spot in the forbidding report: The 5.7% annual increase in August was slightly less than the 6.8% yearly increase in consumer prices that the Bay Area endured in June, according to the report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
