The Mosquito Fire, which started Tuesday afternoon on the Middle Fork of the American River, has prompted mandatory evacuations in Placer and El Dorado counties.

The first evacuations were announced Tuesday night and expanded to cover 160 square miles on both sides of Foresthill Road, including the communities of Foresthill, Four Acres, Michigan Bluff, Chicken Hawk, Gorman Ranch and Volcanoville. Under warnings were Todd Valley and Quintette.
