Bay Area home prices are heating up as the busy spring home-buying season is underway. And a shortage of inventory is helping to further push selling prices up across the region.

For example, a 1,240-square-foot ranch-style home in West San Jose sold for more than $220,000 over its original asking price for $2.52 million.
