Casa Vicky, the venerable Mexican restaurant near downtown San Jose, is one of just 25 restaurants in the country to receive funding from a National Trust for Historic Preservation program this month. The $40,000 grants are aimed at helping smaller, historic restaurants recover from the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic by making improvements.
Owner Maria Aguilar said she was “on cloud 9” when she found out about the grant, which she applied for with help from the Preservation Action Council of San Jose. “I was so honored that they selected me,” she said. “I just wish that my mother and my sister were alive for this.”
