More than a day after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention scrapped most mask mandates for vaccinated people, California officials remained silent as to whether they will follow suit or stick to stricter rules.

The sudden Thursday changes allow vaccinated people to remove their masks and stop socially distancing in the vast majority of settings, except for when mandated in businesses or workplaces, such as while riding public transportation, taking airplanes, or inside hospitals and prisons.
