Initial unemployment claims in California stayed stubbornly high last week, staying well above 100,000, a grim indicator that the statewide labor market remains feeble one year after coronavirus-linked business shutdowns began.

California jobless claims totaled 108,600 for the week ending March 13, up 1,800 from the 106,800 claims that were filed for the week that ended on March 6, the U.S. Labor Department reported Thursday.
