Job losses jolted both the Bay Area and California during January, according to a report Friday that also revealed job losses in 2020 for the Bay Area and the state were far worse than first thought while the coronavirus devastated the economy.
The Bay Area lost 4,800 jobs during January, with the South Bay and the San Francisco-San Mateo region suffering large employment losses, while the East Bay and Marin County were bright spots with sturdy job gains, according to the report from the state Employment Development Department. California lost 69,900 jobs.
