Farming industrial hemp for profit will remain outlawed in Contra Costa County through September, though county supervisors are pushing for laws to be completed by then.
Hemp, a cousin crop of cannabis that doesn’t get anyone high, is legal at the federal level but has been temporarily banned in Contra Costa County. The temporary ban was put in place late last year after neighbors of hemp grows complained about the noise, smell and traffic from various industrial shipments to the farm sites.
