California leaders on Monday, Feb. 15, released the first round of details of the long-promised contract with healthcare giant Blue Shield of California to administer the state’s mammoth coronavirus vaccine rollout. Much, however, was not yet spelled out, including the precise role Los Angeles County officials will play in the system.

Under the contract — which runs from Feb. 1 through Dec. 31 — Blue Shield is now tasked with building a statewide vaccine network “to ensure the rapid delivery of current supply of the COVID19 vaccine to Californians … .”
