SAN JOSE — Coronavirus-linked economic woes unleashed mammoth job losses for hotels and restaurants in the Bay Area and all of California in 2020, which torpedoed hotel activity in the regions, an analysis of new reports shows.
The various reports make it clear that the deadly bug has eviscerated the lodging and dining sectors statewide and locally, erasing nearly a half-million jobs in Califonia and well over 100,000 jobs in the Bay area alone, according to figures that Beacon Economics compiled from reports issued by the state Employment Development Department.
