As the final ballots are counted, more details about this week’s historic recall election are emerging that political junkies can share at Zoom cocktail parties and socially-distanced barbecues this weekend.

Number 1: Gov. Gavin Newsom’s convincing margin of victory Tuesday will not only be a landslide, it is on track to be even larger than the 24-point win he secured against Republican John Cox when he was first elected governor in 2018. Newsom is currently up by more than 27 points, with “no” recall votes ahead 63.7% to 36.3%, as of Thursday night with still about 2.9 million ballots to be counted. In 2018, President Joe Biden won 63.5% of the presidential vote.
