Firefighters continued to make progress on the Caldor Fire, reaching 65% containment as of Saturday evening, and holding the lines south of the Tahoe Basin and east of the Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

The fire, burning close to a month, was at 218,764 acres Saturday evening, according to a Cal Fire incident report. Containment grew from 53 to 65% over a 36-hour period. Despite an “extreme wind event” that lasted overnight into Saturday morning, fire crews held the lines at: Christmas Valley in the Tahoe Basin; south of Upper Echo Lake between Luther Spire and Trimmer Peak; and north of Caples Lake, along SR 88 and east of the Kirkwood resort.
