Firefighters made progress against the monstrous Caldor Fire, and the weather Thursday began to cooperate with them, particularly the winds.

The blaze, which has burned since Aug. 14, grew from 210,259 acres Thursday morning to 210,893, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Crews have contained 27% of it, up from 25%.
